Gary's Dad (Neville) recently passed away.
This is a loss of course to Gary and his family, but also to many many
people who knew him and notably here, to the members of RBMCC.
For Neville was well known to RBMCC as Gary made sure his Dad came
along on pillion for the annual MAG Egg Run to Yorkhill and for good
reason.
Neville had throughout his later years, worked tirelessly for many
charity causes. A notable example being his aid trip across the western
edge of the Sahara Desert in an ex Glesguh Black Taxi... that'll be two
wheel drive then and the perfect vehicle for such terrain... erm, not !
So not one to shirk a challenge was Neville. So no surprise then that
even when no longer able to walk or even stand, he was to be found
being lifted on and off the back of Gary's bike by our membership to
'be there' at the Egg Run.
However, the biggest and best reason for Neville being there was his
love of bikes.
For Neville was a biker through and through... many were the bike
stories shared with Gary. From hand gearchanges and his
preference for the 'flat' engines of his 'Douglas' biking days. One
particular insight was when made aware of the knee down antics of
today's road riding power rangers, with his retort being; “we
called it 'earholing'... ! Now just what angle of lean was
required to get yer ear doon... well nuff said eh !
A true biker and a fine gent and the Club offer their condolences to
the family.
The two images are:
1. Neville on Garys' Bandit in 2003 and reminding himself and family of
Dad the biker.
2. Neville celebrating his win as 'Best Dressed Taxi' – Annual
Taxi Drivers Day to Troon.
NB: The year Evel Knievel had been coming to
Hampden, but crashed at Wembley;
so
Neville
treated us to Evel Kneville instead...
